This is the winter foliage of fringed campion. It is very rare Federally Endangered species known mostly from the central-west Georgia. It is becoming increasingly rare because it is heavily browsed by deer. Browsed plants often don't survive. For more information: plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SIPO
