Chrysis pellucidula Aaron

(Figs. 190, 193, 224, 225)
Chrysis pellucidula Aaron 1885:235. Holotype female, “Virginia” (ANSP).

Diagnosis: F-I twice as long as broad, 1.5-1.6 times as long as F-II or F-III, face unusually short and broad (fig. 190), subantennal distance 0.8 MOD, malar space 1.3 MOD. OOD 2.3-2.5 LOD, IOD 3.0 MOD, transverse frontal carina present and undulate, genal carina separated from eye, midocellus lidded, mesopleuron and metapleuron simple, T-II not ridged, T-III nearly straight laterally, not saddled, pit row usually deep and pits largely confluent, teeth quite short but sharp (fig. 193), S-II with two round black spots separated by 2-3 MOD, S-Ill mostly blue to green, male S-VIU tapering but stout (fig. 225) paramere with two large hirsute lobes (fig. 224), body length 5.0-6.5 mm.

Discussion: The largely confluent pit row together with the short but sharp T-III teeth, short and somewhat bulging face, lidded midocellus, and moderately long F-I characterize the species. A few specimens from Edy and Hidalgo counties of Texas have the pit row less deep and the pits separated. Otherwise they seem to be typical. Host: Trypargilum collinum rubrocinctum (Packard) and T. tridentatum (Packard) in twigs and wood borings (Krombein 1979:1233).

Material examined: 46 males, 114 females including type.

Distribution: Transcontinental in U.S. and southern Canada; also from BAJA CALIFORNIA: Sierra Juarez.
