It multiplies as effectively by vegetative reproduction as by sexual reproduction and can easily become very invasive. It is one of the most invasive plants on the island of Réunion. Occurs in: agricultural areas, natural forests, planted forests, riparian zones, ruderal/disturbed, wetlands Geographical range Native range : Temperate and tropical Asia (China, and especially Japan). Known introduced range : Widely naturalized elsewhere (GRIN, 2007).
