Habitat - Moist sandy open ground, low woods.

Origin - Native to U.S.

Other info. - This striking species is very rare in Missouri. It is likely that the plant reaches the northwest corner of its range in the bootheel of the state. This species is smaller and much more pubescent that the similar L. siphilitica L. , which is very common in Missouri. The inflorescence of L. siphilitica is much more dense than that of L. puberula also.
