Habitat - Rich woods, open rocky woods, thickets.

Origin - Native to U.S.

Other info. - This species can be found throughout Missouri. It can be identified by its minute styles and its fruits, which have bristles in distinct vertical rows.
Natives used the powdered root of S. canadensis to make a tea which treated kidney ailments fevers, rheumatism, and menstrual irregularities. Snakebites were also treated with the crushed root of the plant.
