Solidago canadensis is native to North America and was first reported from Europe in 1645 and in China around 1930. Today Solidago canadensis is widespread and invasive all over Europe and increasingly in East Asia. Its broad tolerance to nutrients and humidity allows it to occur in a variety of different habitats, including derelict land, road sides and dry floodplains. At several locations Solidago canadensis is considered a threat to biodiversity.
