Size (wing length): 10-15mm, 7-11/16 in

Geographic distribution
Canada, USA (Ontario to Quebec and Newfoundland, south to Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana and Florida); Bermuda

How to encounter
Adult Active period: few in July, prevalent August through October


Habitat: urban/suburban yard, grassy area along woodland edges, adult: marshy or shrub-swampy situations. Immature stages: wet plastic soils of grass and sedge marshes
