Stone Mountain Park is owned by the state of Georgia and managed by the Stone Mountain Memorial Association, a Georgia state authority. Located on 3,200 acres in Stone Mountain, GA, the park features a quartz monzonite dome monadnock which is  1,686 feet (513 m) above mean sea level at its summit, and 825 feet (251.5 m) above the surrounding area. The mountain supports unusual plants and animals that are adapted to its extreme conditions. Over two-thirds of the park has been designated the "Natural District" by the Stone Mountain Memorial Association. The Natural District includes pristine woodlands, streams, lakes, granite outcrops and the mountain itself.
