Natural History

Mesochorus is a genus level of the subfamily Mesochorinae. Features like facial dimensions and the shape of the head help characterize different species. The following is a description of these features as described by Dasch. The "facial margins along the inner orbits of the eyes may be parallel-sided, or the distance across the face may narrow or widen at the clypeal level as opposed to the width at the antennal level. The temple may be strongly flattened and sharply inflexed, or may be slightly or strongly inflated or convex"(Dasch,1971).
The wings of all species are hyaline. Often they are light colored at the bottom of the stigma. Their eyes can be iridescent. Mostly their eyes will be black(Dasch, 1971).
