DESCRIPTION
- Height/Habit: Grows 20' to 30'. Spreading stems. With or without clinging roots.
- Hardiness: Zone 7 to 9. ( Dirr 1990)
- Leaves:
Large, decidous made up of 7-9 ovate-acuminate, serrated leaflets, glabrous on underside. ( Consolino & Banfi 1994) Leaflets are 11/2 to 3" long, 1/2 as wide, coarsely toothed, long pointed. ( Dirr 1990)
- Flowers:
Large, funnel-shaped, with 5 reflex lobes, in dense, drooping, terminal inflorescences ( Consolino & Banfi 1994). Corolla funnelform-campanulate, shorter and broader than that of Campsis radicans, scarlet, about 2 in. across; calyx 5-lobed to the middle, about as long as the tube of the corolla ( Bailey 1960).
- Fruit:
Similar to fruit of Campsis radicans. Obtuse at the apex. (Bailey 1960)
- Cultivation:
" Half-hardy plant that will not tolerate periods of frost. Sunny, sheltered sites, in cool, well drained soil. Needs supports during 1st growth phase. Prune last year's branches at end of winter." (Consolino & Banfi 1994)

- Geography:
Although the native habitat of C. grandiflora is China and Japan, it can be found in North America in cultivated form (Orza 1998). It prefers the "torrid heat of the low desert areas of the American West much to its liking (Consolino & Banfi 1994)." It can also be found in nurseries throughout North America. (Orza1998)
