DESIRED SOIL TYPE

The Bloodroot prefers the rich moist soil of the open woods (Hylander, 233). Bloodroot can thrive in a variety of soils, but prefers a moist, leafy soil, especially if it is on the slightly acid or neutral side. Sun or partial shade will suit is equally well providing the soil does not dry out severely during the summer (Grey-Wilson, 46).
