Subject: Inventory Plan

At a meeting on 9/25 Pick reminded me that I hadn't commented on the draft
inventory plan. I re-read it last night. I still like what I read--
bearing in mind that I am not in the field anymore. I think you are
definitely on the right track. The key thing is happening-- you have given
us a solid base to work from. As more and more review and reflect, we'll
have something that is scientifically sound and reflects a process that
gives everyone who so desires a chance to comment.

I see that NSF is moving on with the concept of biodiversity observatories.
This is still a rough concept, but more discussion will follow, I have
spoken with Krishtalka about the Smokies being so considered. I'll keep
pushing that and finding out more when I am in DC at the BIO directorate's
advisory committee meeting later this month.

Hope all goes well,
Frank
