Our Executive Committee tabled my request for funds to be appropriated for the Nature Quest. Sorry. I tried. The issue of funding you may be raised again during the March meeting of the Executive Committee. However, I'll be in Panama and will not be able to be your advocate. I'm hoping that Peter White will contact you and interface your efforts with the Executive Committee. Alternately, Keith Langdon or Jody may be able to be more effective than I. The Executive Committee is concerned that we cannot handle a large Nature Quest this first year and want to keep it manageable. Kitty, you're off the hook regarding ants. There is very little support for including them. I now recommend that we restrict our efforts with ants to the pilots with our teachers in Georgia. Again, sorry for the disappointment. I very much value what you all are doing and hope that this doesn't dampen your enthusiasm too much. On the positive side, $16,000 will be made available to four Taxonomy Teams, including Diptera and Fungi, and $8,000, to equip a new training/sorting/processing/data center at Cosby. Cheers, Pick _________________________________________________________ John Pickering Institute of Ecology, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602-2602 Office: 706-542-1115 Messages: 706-542-3379 Laboratory: 706-542-1388 FAX: 706-542-3344 e-mail: pick@pick.uga.edu Home: 706-353-7076 Web sites: <www.discoverlife.org> <http://dial.pick.uga.edu> _________________________________________________________
