Forest fire meeting -- input requested
Subject: Re: Forest fire meeting -- input requested To: John Pickering <pick@discoverlife.org> From: "Keith Wooster/R8/USDAFS" <kwooster@fs.fed.us> Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 07:25:05 -0500 Is this how we vote? The categories I vote for are A B E F and specific topics are 7, 16, 33 and 27. But on 26, I would like to see "Forest Community restoration" leave off endangered species. I am thinking about restoring the oak/pine blue steam communities in the mountains, T&E species are not associated with this. Also in F, I want a topic of " what will the forest look like in 100 years without fire" what will plant communities be? what will animal species look like. None of the subjects listed address this. White pine encroachment is taking over. The forest IS going to white pine. Environmental groups do not see this. The whole purpose of this meeting is to demonstrate the historical role of fire and what will happen without it. If we dont address this, we will fall short of our objectives! ********************************* Keith Wooster Wildlife Biologist 401 GI Maddox Pkwy Chatsworth GA 706- 695-6736 Fax 706- 695-1872 **********************************
