DLIA 2001 Mini-Grant Executive Summary

Survey of Cellular Slime Molds (Social Amoebae) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Investigator(s): John C. Landolt, Dept. of Biology, Shepherd College

Soil and litter material from the vicinity of about nine of the ATBI study plots in the Park will be examined for the occurrence and distribution of cellular slime mold species. Additional samples will be collected near the mouth of Gregory's Cave to compare with a data set of slime mold isolations previously made from within this cave. If possible, samples of material from other caves within the Park will be processed. One or more undergraduate students will be offered an opportunity to participate in the project.
