Pick, It turns out that the IMac keyboard is not supported as a wedge, but
USB will be (cable ready in 4 months). However, there are USB boxes
available today that can convert a standard RS-232 cable to USB. I have
attached a document describing the process called "USB2.doc".

Regarding a printer, the sales person for Athens is on vacation this week.
His name is Tom West. His phone number is 770 641 5030.

I still plan to be in Athens on Monday, in case you return from the
mountains in time. I will be busy until about noon, then will check my
voicemail (425 348 2704) before going to Atlanta. If we miss in Athens,
please consider meeting in Atlanta for dinner Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday
evening (I will be staying in the North Perimeter area). Thank you. SA

RS-
232/USB Conversion

Purchase a USB Serial Converted manufactured by Peracom, part number
US1000A. This device comes with a serial USB driver for Windows 95.
Alternatively, purchase a USB device cable (A plug / B plug) from Belkin
(part number F3U133-10).

To install this converter first find a PC with a USB port. Next, run a
program to check if the PC is USB ready. A program called \154USBready.exe\156
is available for download through USB\155s website ( HYPERLINK
http://www.usb.org) www.USB.org) . Run \154USBready.exe\156 and it will test
the three items necessary to use a USB device on a PC. It will check the
system software(OS) support, system hardware support, and USB driver
support. At the end it will tell you if the PC is USB ready. If the PC is
USB ready, continue with installation, if not and upgrade to the system
will be necessary.

Installing the converter:

Step one: Install the SC driver diskette into you\155re A: drive of the pc.
Plug the USB connection into the Serial converter. You will then see the
Unknown Device dialog box. The A: drive will automatically be read and the
next window will show that a Peracom USB Serial Port \161 SYS Driver was
found. Click finish. Once done you can remove the diskette.
Step two: Leave the USB connector into your serial converter. Click on My
Computer and then add new hardware. Click Next; then select No to not
allow the system to search for devices. Click Next. You will then see a
list of the types of devices to be configured. Scroll down and click on
Ports and then Next. You should now see a window with Peracom in the left
pane. Click on Peracom and you should then see USB Serial Port in the
right pane. Click next and then Finish. You will then be prompted to
reboot the machine- Click Yes.

Using the converter. Use a standard cable to connect to the 25 pin RS-232
port of the USB converter. With this, connect an Intermec 1470 or other
RS232 device. Program the 1470 for RS-232 with the plug-n-play bar code.
This sets our device to 9600, e, 7, 1. The USB port must be configured in
the same matter. Click on My Computer/ Control Panel / System / Device
Manager / Ports / USB. Click on Port settings and set the USB serial port
for 9600, e, 7, 1. Then click on ok.

To test the device, go into Hyperterminal and start a session with the USB
comm port. Scan sample bar codes and you are done. Connecting a 1470 in
the same fashion and will work easily as well. Any RS-232 device will work
in this environment, the USB port works exactly as any RS-232 port with
speeds up to 921,600 baud.
