Overview

The Shorefishes of the Tropical Eastern Pacific (SFTEP) website system combines the following capabilities:

  1. A comprehensive interactive identification guide for 1,260 coastal fishes in a biogeorgraphic region with one of the highest rates of endemism in the world (80% of the resident inshore tropical fishes).

  2. An image library with over 3000 photographs and illustrations of that can be used interactively to generate web slide shows by family (e. g., see Acanthuridae slide show).

  3. Dynamic web pages to each of the families, genera, and species that can be accessed by browsing or searching by scientific of common name.

  4. An interactive research mapping tool that allows analyses of faunal structure at varying spatial scales, using species-level databases on zoogeography and biology.
