EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCES
2003- Systems Administrator, Polistes Foundation at the University of Georgia - Athens, GA. I have been with the Polistes Foundation since completing independent research under Dr. John Pickering in 2003. I served as the lab manager for more than two years and became his chief computer technician and systems administrator during that time. I now manage over 20 servers and workstations for this investigator, supporting all of his research endeavors through programming and hardware support for UNIX and Macintosh. During this time my skills with Perl have also become much more developed and I frequently troubleshoot code.
2006-2008 Webmaster, Student Notetakers Service for MCG - Augusta, GA. I served as the webmaster and assistant coordinator for this student-run service to provide transcripts of all lectures to students via a secure website.
2002 Traffic Operations Intern, Georgia Department of Transportation - Gainesville, GA. This unique job opportunity is provided to one student each year studying in the field of science, engineering, or mathematics. I was selected by the District Engineer based on recommendations and academic achievement to work as a civil engineer for the Department of Transportation in the department of Traffic Operations, which revises all existing roadways and intersections.
2001 Laboratory Technician, Georgia Diagnostic Poultry Laboratory - Oakwood, GA. I served as a laboratory technician in this very busy microbiology lab during the summer full- time doing all manner of laboratory work including processing samples, plating for culture, agar production, sterilization, sensitivity studies, and advanced organism identification techniques.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCES
2008- Give a Smile Foundation - Augusta, GA. I am the webmaster for this organization, providing them with a website through which to do their fundraising and awareness promotion. This organization raises money for free dental care for those who cannot afford the already reduced prices at MCG.
2007- Life Link Transplant Awareness Group - Augusta, GA. This organization coordinates organ procurement and transplant for Georgia. As a volunteer I work at organ donation drives and promote awareness throughout the community by helping LifeLink spread information in a grassroots fashion.
2007 Voice for Kids 5K Planning Committee - Augusta, GA. I served on the planning committee for the 5K and helped with logistical issues for this organization that raises money for car safety education, free car seats, and free helmets for children.
2006-2007 Public Relations Committee for Miracle Marathon - Augusta, GA. This organization raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network, which supports hospitals like the Children’s Medical Center at the Medical College of Georgia. I assisted with corporate donations and advertisement for this event.
2006-2007 Women’s Free Health Clinic - Augusta, GA. I volunteered in this clinic which sees women free of charge for all gynecologic complaints.
2006 MCG Sight Savers - Augusta, GA. I volunteered for this organization which goes into the community and offers vision screening, glaucoma screening, and blood pressure screening free of charge.
1999-2001 Northeast Georgia Medical Center - Gainesville, GA. I volunteered throughout the hospital helping with all aspects of patient services including patient information, reception, nursing, and the pharmacy.
LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES
2006-2008 Webmaster, Student Notetakers Service for MCG - Augusta, GA. I was responsible for managing all website distribution of lecture transcriptions.
2007 Voice for Kids 5K Planning Committee - Augusta, GA. I was responsible for organizing and set-up of the 5K with the other planning committee members.
2006-2007 Public Relations Committee for Miracle Marathon - Augusta, GA. I was responsible for coordinating many corporate sponsors of our event and helping the rest of the committee members with advertisement.
2003-2006 Laboratory Supervisor, Polistes Foundation at the University of Georgia - Athens, GA. I was responsible for managing a very busy lab with approximately ten students each semester and several part-time employees. I was also responsible for managing purchases and directly supervising other students.
2002-2005 Chapter Treasurer, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia National Fraternity - Athens, GA. In this fraternity, I was responsible for a budget of several thousand dollars, most of which was supplied by a fundraiser that I personally ran each year. I was also responsible for all chapter dues, member dues, scholarships provided by our chapter, and was a member of the chapter executive committee.
2003-2005 Section Leader, University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band - Athens, GA. As section leader, I was responsible for the twelve members of my section, their attendance, compliance with requirements, and music rehearsals. I was also responsible for serving on the yearly planning committee for the band repertoire and band camp leadership.
