Dorsal rays XXV, 13 to 15; anal rays I, 28, spine small thick, with fleshy cover; scales small, about 60 in lateral series; body very elongate, rounded, greatest depth 6.0-7.0 in standard length; head large, angular; cornea divided by an oblique pigmented band into an anterior lower half and posterior upper half; upper edge of eye with 1-4 slender cirri; each side of nape with a single short cirrus; teeth in jaws forming narrow bands; roof of mouth with single series at front, none on sides.
Generally light greenish to nearly black with series of 7-9 white blotches along base of dorsal fin, also diffuse white blotches along lower side; lips white and scattered white markings on head and pectoral fin, including a pair of large whitish areas on base of pectoral fin.
Size: grows to at least 12 cm.
Habitat: found in rocky areas of the intertidal zone, often seen above the water line resting on rocks.
Depth: 0-5 m.
Galapagos and Cocos Islands.
