Elongate, a little compressed; head relatively long (1/3 of standard length); relatively large eyes (7-9-9.5%% of standard length); small, terminal mouth; top jaw toothless; fins without spines; 1 dorsal fin plus a small adipose fin at rear, over anal; pectorals low; pelvics on midbelly; anal fin at rear; tail forked; scales smooth, 45-47 (average 47) lateral line scales.

Body translucid, head silver; an iridescent silver stripe along midside from eye back; top of head and snout dusky; a black blotch above eye; 8 faint dusky bars on back; fins dusky; mouth and gill chamber white.

Size: 15 cm.

Habitat: over soft bottoms.

Depth: 90-310 m.

The Gulf of Fonseca to northern Peru, Malpelo.
