Inhabits slow-flowing streams or still, isolated pools in either clear or turbid conditions. Can tolerate marine conditions and temperatures well above 30° C. Can live in water where salinity levels twice that of sea water. An extremely hardy species capable of surviving hypersaline conditions and a wide temperature range. Its tolerance to salinity is much higher than that of most other fishes. The omnivorous diet includes small invertebrates and plant material (Ref.
44894
).
