Gill openings restricted to sides of body by fusion of gill cover membranes to throat; nostril with a simple, eye-sized cirrus; 1 short, heavily branched cirri above the eye; groove along side of head between nape and eye; concave between eyes; dorsal XI-XII, 15-16, no notch between spiny & soft parts, 4th spine highest, higher in male than female; anal II, 17; pectoral reaches origin of anal; lateral line ends well before middle of body.
Light greyish yellow to light brown, with dark brown mottling or 6-7 irregular bars on upper 1/2 of body; large brown spot with blue dot at front behind eye; 3-4 dark bars under eye; blue and brown spot on 1st 3 spines of dorsal of male.
Size: 10 cm.
Habitat: rocky shores.
