Dorsal rays VII, 14-15; anal rays I, 15; pectoral rays 18-19; body very elongate and compressed, tapering posteriorly; eye very small, interorbital space broad; mouth moderately large and oblique, extends past eye; outer teeth long, close-set; distinct from almost all other gobies treated here in the combination of its long, eel-like body and single dorsal fin.
Pale tan with golden sheen on gill cover and side of body; upper back brown with bar-like extensions reaching middle of side, these becoming obscure on posterior third of body.
Size: attains 45 cm.
Inhabits brackish tidal rivers and estuaries as well as fresh water, lives in muddy burrows.
Depth: 1-45 m.
Nicaragua to Peru.
