: 26. Premaxillary teeth tricuspid without overlying papillae, lateral cusps much longer than median cusp; enameloid crown short; 61-78 teeth on each premaxilla; mouth narrow; longitudinal scales 61-68; transverse scales 20-23.
Inhabits creeks and rivers between sea level and 1180 m elevation, usually present in rapids or riffles of high current velocity. Always stuck to rocks or hidden between stones. Ingests great quantities of mud, diatoms and filamentous algae that it scrapes from the substratum (Ref.

).
