Body oblong, thick; head compressed; snout ~47% of head length; between eyes slightly convex, width <2.5X snout length; nasal organ a short papilla with 2 small holes at end; skin without spines; no skin flaps; dorsal 7-8, anal 6-7, pectoral 15-16; tail slightly rounded.

Grey to dark brown above, white below; broad band of small dark spots on side above midline, from above gill slit to tail base; all fins pale greenish, outer margin of tail dusky.

Size: 18 cm.

Habitat: demersal on soft bottoms, in bays.

Depth: 1-20 m.

Costa Rica to Peru.
