This moderate-sized Rocky Mountain species is related to rufosignata and similar to pale western specimens of thaspii; Both sexes of laminibucca have basal inferior mandibular teeth, but these are quite small in males; The male sixth sternum has the apical margin sharply reflexed and provided with short dense plumose hairs; The metasomal tergal hairs of the female are long and usually pale (dark on terga 3-6 or 4-6 in two specimens), the scopal hairs brown at least posteriorly and the facial foveal hairs all or largely dark brown; The male has the first flagellar segment distinctly longer than the second and usually slightly longer than the third, a short vertex and dull, tessellate scutellum; This species is poorly known and the two sexes have not been collected at the same time; Association of the females described below with the male is based chiefly upon morphological evidence but does not violate the geographic evidence provided by the specimens.

FEMALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 20; length, 10-14 mm; width, 3-4 mm; wing length, M = 4.65 ± 0.273 mm; FL/FW, M = 0.96 ± 0.006; FOVL/FOVW, M = 3.07 ± 0.036.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Black except as follows: mandible with apical third to half rufescent; flagellar segments 3-10 dark reddish-brown below; tegula translucent, dark reddish-brown; wing membranes moderately to deeply infumate, yellow to dark brown, veins reddish-brown to dark brown; terga 1 or 2 to 4 with apical areas translucent, especially apically, piceous at base to rufescent or yellow at apices; sternal apical areas translucent, yellow; distitarsi dark rufescent; tibial spurs testaceous to reddish-brown.

STRUCTURE. — Antennal scape length equals first two and one-half flagellar segments; flagellar segment 1 as long as following two and one-third segments; segment 2 as long as segment 3 or slightly shorter, as long as broad and shorter than 4; Eyes each about three and three-fourths times as long as broad, inner margins parallel; Malar space moderately long, usually slightly shorter than one-third basal width of mandible; Mandible as in frigida but with distinct basal inferior tooth; Galea as in frigida; Maxillary palpus as in frigida but segmental ratio about as 1.0:1.0:0.8:0.8:0.6:0.6; Labial palpus as in frigida but ratio about as 1.0:0.7:0.6:0.6; Labral process large, trapezoidal, bidentate, reflexed, grooved at base; labrum apical to process convex, with weak median crista; Clypeus as in rufosignata; Supraclypeal area dulled by fine dense punctures and fine shagreening; Face above antennal fossae, facial fovea, vertex and genal area as in rufosignata; Thoracic form and sculpturing as in rufosignata but scutellum dulled by fine tessellation, not shiny.

Metasomal terga 1-4 as in rufosignata but basal areas usually with small round punctures separated by one to two puncture widths, surfaces reticularly shagreened; Pygidial plate V-shaped, narrow, apex moderately pointed, internal raised triangle distinct; Sterna as in rufosignata.

VESTITURE. — Generally pale ochraceous except as follows: facial fovea with short hairs dark brown entirely or at least in upper half; face along inner margins eyes with brown hairs; vertex with brown hairs; clypeal hairs brown at least apicomedially; terga 5 and 6 with dark brown hairs; tibiae with dark hairs at least posteriorly and often entirely; tarsi with outer surfaces usually brown; Darkest female with head hairs entirely brown, thoracic hairs dark brown except dorsally, terga 3-6 with hairs dark brown except basally on tergum 3, sternal hairs dark brown and leg hairs dark brown; Only one female examined with darkest vestiture, a few intermediates (3) and remainder pale; Tergal vestiture generally long, dense; terga 3 and 4 with basal area hairs not much shorter than that of tergum 2; terga 2-4 with apical areas with long pale hairs; pollen-collecting hairs generally as in frigida.

MALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 20; length, 10-13 mm; width, 2.5-3.5 mm; wing length, M = 4.30 ± 0.243 mm; FL/FW, M = 0.91 ± 0.009; FS1/FS2, M = 1.21 ± 0.026.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — As in female but mandible with only apical fourth rufescent, flagellar segments 2-11 reddish-brown to brown below, wing membranes slightly to moderately infumate, yellow to yellowish-brown and tibial spurs testaceous.

STRUCTURE. — Antennal scape length equals about first two flagellar segments; flagellar segment 1 slightly but distinctly longer than segment 2 which about equals segment 3 and is longer than broad; Eyes each about one and one-fifth times longer than broad, inner margins parallel; Mandible as in rufosignata but with basal inferior tooth small; Malar space and galea as in female; Maxillary palpus as in female; Labial palpus as in female but ratio about as 1.0:0.6:0.5.0:5; Labral process and labrum as in rufosignata; Clypeus flat, broad, with round punctures separated by half a puncture width except along narrow median impunctate midline and in small sparsely punctate apicomedian area; surface shiny, shagreened only along base; Supraclypeal area, face above antennal fossae, vertex and genal area as in rufosignata; Thoracic form and sculpturing as in rufosignata but scutellum not shiny, finely tessellate and dull; Metasomal sculpturing as in rufosignata; tergal apical areas usually impunctate, basal areas usually with small punctures separated by 2 to 4 puncture widths, surfaces dull to shiny, shagreened; Sternum 6 sharply reflexed apically, not deeply emarginate, reflexed margin provided with dense, short, plumose hairs.

Terminalia as in figures 87-91; note sternum 7 emarginate with rounded apical lobes; narrow penis valves.

VESTITURE. — Generally pale ochraceous but inner surfaces hind tarsi pale yellow; Hairs generally long; terga 2-5 with basal areas with relatively long hairs but not hiding surfaces, occasionally dark brown on terga 5-7 or 6-7; apical tergal areas with hairs sparse, short, sterna 2-5 with short pale, subapical fimbriae; sternum 6 with reflexed apical margin covered by dense, short, plumose, pale hairs.
