This interesting species from the mountains of eastern California is closely related to Andrena perarmata; Both sexes of monoensis can be distinguished from those of perarmata by the shorter first flagellar segment, the less punctate clypeus and the weaker vestiture of the metasomal terga as described below; The male has the basal inferior mandibular teeth short and rounded and for this reason might be confused with the eastern longifacies from which it differs by the weak tergal apical fasciae and more distinct sternal subapical fimbriae.

FEMALE. — MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 4; length, 12-13 mm; width, 3.0-3.5 mm; wing length, M = 5.09 ± 0.111 mm; FL/FW, M = 0.90 ± 0.008; FOVL/FOVW, M = 3.40 ± 0.054.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Black except as follows: mandible with apical third rufescent; flagellum below dark; tegula piceous to dark rufescent; wing membranes slightly infumate, veins reddish-brown to dark brown; tergal apical areas translucent; sternal apical areas translucent yellow to colorless apically; tibial spurs dark brown.

STRUCTURE. — Antennal scape length equals first two flagellar segments; flagellar segments 1 as long as segments two plus three; segment 2 about as long as segment 3 and as long as broad; median segments slightly longer than broad; Eyes each about four times as long as broad, inner margins parallel; Mandible as perarmata with basal inferior tooth present, distinct; Malar space and galea as perarmata; Maxillary palpus as in perarmata but segmental ratio about as 0.8:1.0:0.7:0.7:0.6:0.6; Labial palpus as in perarmata but ratio about as 1.0:0.5:0.5:0.6; Labral process bidentate, narrowed and swollen towards apex; labrum apical to process dull, convex, without distinct cristae; Clypeus as in frigida but narrow median impunctate line present, complete, and ending in a small subapical impunctate triangular area; surface slightly shinier; Supraclypeal area and face above antennal fossae as in frigida; Vertex short, above lateral ocellus equal to less than one ocellar diameter; opaque, tessellate; Facial fovea as in perarmata; Thoracic form and sculpturing as in frigida; propodeal dorsal area without basal rugulae; Metasomal tergum 1 dull, reticularly shagreened, impunctate or virtually so; Terga 2-4 similar but minute punctures separated mostly by two puncture widths and surfaces slightly shinier; Pygidial plate V-shaped with raised internal triangle; Sterna as in frigida.

VESTITURE. — Pale ochraceous to ochraceous except as follows: facial foveae dark brown, face above antennal fossae, along inner margins of eyes and vertex with dark brown hairs; outer surfaces tarsi and fore and middle tibiae brown; terga 5 and 6 with brown hairs at least medially; Form and distribution of hair much as in perarmata but metasomal terga with hairs shorter and sparser, not obscuring surfaces, and terga 2-4 with more or less complete, weak, pale, apical fasciae of long pale hairs.

MALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 5; length, 10-12 mm; width, 2.5-3.0 mm; wing length, M = 4.48 ± 0.752 mm; FL/FW, M = 0.89 ± 0.021; FS1/FS2, M = 0.95 ± 0.023.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Black except as follows: mandible with apical fourth or less rufescent; flagellar segments 2-11 dark brown below; tegulae dark rufescent; wing membranes hyaline, veins red to dark reddish-brown; sternal apical areas translucent yellow; tergal apical areas translucent, yellow to brown; distitarsi dark reddish-brown; tibial spurs reddish-brown to black.

STRUCTURE. — Antennal scape length about as long as first two flagellar segments; flagellar segment 1 no longer than segment 2, about one and one-third times as long as broad; Eyes each about three and one-third times as long as broad, inner margins parallel; Mandibles decussate, each extending beyond middle of labrum by one-third length; base with short, rounded, inferior tooth or tooth absent; Malar space long, length equals one-third basal mandibular width or slightly less; Galea as in female; Maxillary and labial palpi as in female; Labrum as in female; process bidentate, reflexed, shiny; Clypeus relatively flat; punctures deep, round, separated by half a puncture width except sparser apicomedially; surface shiny, unshagreened except at extreme base; Supraclypeal area moderately shiny, minutely and densely punctate; Face above antennal fossae with longitudinal, parallel rugulae, interrugal punctures and shagreening; Vertex above lateral ocellus equal to one ocellar diameter or slightly more, dulled by dense tessellation and punctures; Genal area in profile about two and one-half times as broad as eye, angulate posteriorly; surface with small round punctures separated by one to two or more puncture widths, shiny to moderately shiny, delicately shagreened posteriorly; Thoracic form and sculpturing as in female except as follows: pronotum with dorsoventral ridge sharp, surface posterior to ridge shiny, usually with a few weak longitudinal rugulae below; propodeal dorsal enclosure slightly roughened at extreme base.

Metasomal terga 1-5 shiny to moderately shiny, unshagreened apically to weakly shagreened basally; apical areas virtually impunctate; basal areas with small sparse punctures separated by two to five puncture widths; Tergum 7 without pseudopygidial area; Sterna 2-5 with apical areas impunctate; basal areas with coarse punctures separated by two to four puncture widths; surfaces dulled by coarse reticular shagreening; Sternum 6 flat apically.

Terminalia as in Figure 32 to 36; note sternum 8 with broad, emarginate apex.

VESTITURE. — Pale ochraceous to ochraceous except head with black hair surrounding compound eyes and across upper part of face; Hairs long; tergum 4 and often tergum 3 with complete weak apical pale fasciae; tergum 2 and occasionally 3 with apical pale fasciae interrupted medially; sterna 2-5 with well-formed, short, pale, subapical fimbriae.
