This small southwestern species can be distinguished from the preceding species of Parandrena by the shiny, unshagreened mesoscutum in both sexes. It is similar in this respect to A. gibberis but the females of papagorum have the clypeus smooth, shiny and largely impunctate medially and the males have the sixth sternum with the apicolateral angles short, untwisted and relatively close to one another.

FEMALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 12; length, 8-9 mm; width, about 2.5 mm; wing length, M = 3.14 ± 0.124 mm; FL/FW, M (II) = 0.95 ± 0.005; FOVL/FOVW, M (11) = 3.52 ± 0.061.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — As in dark females of andrenoides except as follows: flagella dark reddish-brown below; wing membranes colorless, veins red.

STRUCTURE. — Antennae as in andrenoides except scape equal in length to about first two and one-half flagellar segments and flagellar segment 1 equal in length to about following two and one-fourth segments. Eyes each about three and two-thirds times as long as broad, inner margins parallel. Mandible and galea as in andrenoides but galea dulled by fine dense tessellation. Labial palpus as in andrenoides but segmental ratio about as 1.0:0.7:0.6:0.6. Maxillary palpus as in andrenoides but ratio about as 1.0:0.9:0.7:0.7:0.7:0.7. Labral process small, rounded or triangular, broad; labrum apical to process with space between sulcus and process reduced, shiny. Clypeus gently rounded from side to side, protuberant; laterally with punctures separated largely by one or more puncture widths, sparser towards midline, median fifth or fourth impunctate but not protruding, without transverse furrows roughening surface near apical margin; surface shiny, shagreened laterally and at extreme base (one specimen delicately shagreened medially). Supraclypeal area shiny, minutely punctate to impunctate. Face, facial fovea, vertex and genal area as in andrenoides.

Pronotum as in andrenoides. Mesoscutum sparsely punctate (impunctate in large posteromedian area), between parapsidal line and lateral margin of scutum punctures separated by one to two or more puncture widths; surface shiny, unshagreened or only delicately so laterally and anteriorly. Scutellum, propodeum, mesepisternum, venation and tibial spurs as in andrenoides.

Metasomal terga 1-4 with minute scattered punctures (virtually impunctate except under high magnification), surfaces moderately shiny, with delicate reticular shagreening. Pygidial plate and sterna as in andrenoides.

VESTITURE. — Generally white; form and distribution of hairs as in andrenoides but metasomal terga 3 and 4 usually with apical pale fasciae complete and tergum 2 with pale fascia only narrowly interrupted medially.

MALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 5; length, 7-8 mm; width, about 1.5 mm; wing length, M = 2.81 ± 0.309 mm; FL/FW, M = 0.89 ± 0.011; FS1/FS2, M = 1.76 ± 0.055.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — As in andrenoides except as follows: mandible with basal yellow spot usually absent; parocular yellow macula large but sinuous posterior border not reaching back beyond level of prostomial suture; wing membranes colorless, veins red.

STRUCTURE. — Antennae as in andrenoides but scape length equals first two and three-fourths flagellar segments. Eyes and mandible as in andrenoides. Galea as in female. Labial palpus as in andrenoides but segmental ratio about 1.0:0.6:0.5:0.5. Maxillary palpus as in andrenoides but ratio about as 1.0:1.0:0.8:0.8:0.8:0.6. Labral process small, rounded to trapezoidal, usually with shallow median emargination; labrum apical to process broadly shiny and impunctate, slightly depressed transversely but not sulcate. Clypeus flat or slightly rounded from side to side; sparsely punctate medially, laterally punctures separated by one puncture width or less; surface moderately shiny, with fine reticular shagreening. Supraclypeal area impunctate, shiny or shagreened. Face, vertex and genal area as in andrenoides.

Pronotum as in andrenoides but dorsoventral ridge sharp. Mesoscutum shiny and sparsely punctate as in female. Scutellum, propodeum, mesepisternum, venation and tibial spurs as in andrenoides.

Metasomal terga 1-5 as in female terga 1-4. Sterna 2-5 sparsely punctate, reticularly shagreened. Sternum 6 with apicolateral angles reflexed to about right angles with surface, not widely separated, apex of eighth sternum at least as broad as half distance between angles of sixth sternum. Terminalia as figured (Figs. 62-66); note the following: similar to andrenoides; penis valves with tips acute in lateral view; sternum 7 lacks pigmented spots near apex.

VESTITURE. — Generally white; form and distribution of hairs as in andrenoides but sternal subapical fimbriae extremely weak.
