This large southwestern species differs from any of the preceding species by having four tergal fasciae in the female and four or five fasciae in the male. In both sexes tergum 1 is weakly fasciate (worn specimens may have only lateral patches of the first apical fascia remaining) and the males frequently have an apical fascia on tergum 5. The females are also distinctive in the large amount of black hairs on the mesoscutum and scutellum and in having the dorsal area of the propodeum with irregular short rugulae basally. The males have an unusually long first flagellar segment for this subgenus and the dorsal area of the propodeum is often rugulate basally as in the female.

FEMALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 20; length, 9-12 mm width, 3-4 mm; wing length, M = 3.93 ± 0.163 mm; FL/FW, M = 1.01 ± 0.005; FOVL/FOVW, 3.03 ± 0.049.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Black except as follows: mandible with apical third or less rufescent; flagellar segments 2-10 reddish-brown to brown below; wing membranes hyaline, colorless, veins black to dark brown tegulae piceous; terga narrowly hyaline apically, often rufescent basad of hyaline margin (one female with basal two terga rufescent); sterna hyaline apically (yellow); tarsi dark; tibial spurs yellow.

STRUCTURE. — Antennal scape length equals first two and three-fourths flagellar segments or slightly more; flagellar segment 1 equal in length to following two and one-fourth to two and one-third segments, segment 2 quadrate or shorter, shorter than 3, segments 3-10 longer than broad.

Eyes each three and one-half times as long as broad or slightly longer, inner margin parallel. Malar space one-fourth as long as width of base of mandible or almost so. Mandible as in medionitens. Galea as in medionitens but moderately dulled by fine shagreening. Maxillary palpus as in medionitens but segmental ratio about as 1.0:0.9:0.9:0.9:0.9:0.8. Labial palpus as in medionitens but ratio about as 1.0:0.8:0.8:0.8. Labral process trapezoidal in outline, bidentate apically or weakly so; labrum below process as in medionitens. Clypeus evenly rounded from side to side, with round deep punctures separated mostly by half to one puncture width, smaller and more crowded basally, median impunctate line present; surface shiny, unshagreened except basally. supraclypeal area dulled by minute shallow punctures and fine shagreening. Genal area in profile slightly broader than eye (about as 28:25), dulled by reticular shagreening except near eye margin, with small scattered punctures. Vertex, face and facial fovea as in medionitens Pronotum as in medionitens. Mesoscutum with round punctures separated mostly by half a puncture width peripherally and in anterior third, by one to two or more puncture widths posteromedially; surface tessellate, dull except occasionally moderately shiny posteromedially where tessellation becomes fainter. Scutellum similar but usually shinier medially. Propodeum with dorsal area densely tessellate, with irregular short rugulae basally and in center; dorsolateral and posterior surfaces opaque, tessellate with punctures obscure; lateral surfaces with slightly coarser tessellation and scattered piliferous punctures. Mesepisternum opaque, densely tessellate with distinct but small punctures separated by 2 to 4 puncture widths. Pterostigma narrow, about as broad as from inner margin prestigma to wing margin; vein 1st m-cu meets second submarginal cell in outer fifth of cell; vein r long. Vannal lobe hind wing incised, broad, long.

Metasomal terga dulled by fine tessellation, punctures minute, sparse, obscure except in basal part of apical areas (beneath fasciae). Pygidial plate V-shaped, apex acute, inner raised triangle present (unless worn). Sterna as in medionitens.

VESTITURE. — White except as follows: vertex, face almost down to level of antennal fossae and along inner margins of eye (upper half) with dark brown; facial fovea brown to ochraceous (usually brown at least above) mesoscutum with large patch of dark brown or mixed white and dark scutellum dark brown with white fringe; terga 2-4 or 3-4 with basal areas with short, dark brown; terga 5 and 6 brown except laterally; last sternum with brown hairs except white fringe; basitibial plate and scopal hairs just below it brown; outer surface middle tibia usually brown medially; inner surfaces tarsi yellow. Pollen-collecting hairs normal for subgenus. Dorsal" thoracic hairs short to moderately long. Tergum 1 with weak but complete apical fascia (unless worn) and long pale hairs basally. Terga 2-4 with complete apical fasciae (rarely interrupted medially and then on worn specimens). Clypeus usually with moderately long hairs on disc but not hiding surface.

MALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 20; length, 7-10 mm; width, 2-3 mm; wing length, M = 3.52 ± 0.150 mm; FL/FW, M = 1.07 ± 0.006 FS1/FS2, M = 1.56 ± 0.026.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — As in female.

STRUCTURE. — Antenna short, in repose not reaching metanotum; scape length equals first two flagellar segments or slightly more; flagellar segment 1 equals in length to one and one-half times segment 2 and about equal to segment 3, segments 3-10 slightly less than one and one-half times as long as broad. Eyes, malar space, mandible and galea as in female. Maxillary palpus as in medionitens but segmental ratio about as 1.0:0.9:0.8:0.8:0.8:0.7. Labial palpus as in medionitens but ratio about as 1.0:0.8:0.6:0.6. Labral process bidentate, reflexed; labrum apical to process without cristae or rarely with one extremely weak median crista. Clypeus as in female but punctures slightly more crowded and median impunctate line often extremely narrow or absent except in apical third or half. Supraclypeal area as in female. Genal area in profile about one and one-fourth times as broad as eye; sculptured as in female. Vertex and face as in female.

Thoracic form and sculpturing as in female except as follows: mesoscutal punctures shallower and more crowded, surface never shiny; scutellar punctures shallow, surface moderately shiny to dull medially. Wing venation as in female.

Metasomal terga 1-5 sculptured as in female terga 1-4. Sterna with basal area punctures sparse, minute, obscure, tessellation coarse, moderately shiny. Sternum 6 flat, apical margin shallowly and broadly emarginate. Terminalia as in Figures 62-66.

VESTITURE. — As in female as follows: face with dark hairs along inner margin of eye usually extending down to clypeal corner; mesoscutal dark hairs sparse or absent; terga 2-3 with white erect hairs at extreme bases, with narrow zone of brown hairs. Terga 1-4 with pale apical fasciae complete as in female; tergum 5 often with pale apical fascia but usually weak on terga 6 and 7 brown except laterally. Sterna 2-5 with subapical fimbriae short, relatively weak but complete. Sternum 6 without apical fringe or tuft.
