Overview
Plasmodium white. Hypothallus inconspicuous. Sporocarps crowded and sometimes ± tangled, often in large groups, initially 2.0-3.5 mm tall, cylindrical and c. 0.6 mm diam., wine-red or red-brown, fading to red-brown. Stalk dark, up to 1 mm long. Calyculus usually rather deep and often asymmetrical, smooth or radially plicate, the inside covered with warts which may be connected by bands to form a fragmentary reticulum. Capillitial net rather wide-meshed, expanding into a procumbent plume up to 8 mm long, blowing away completely except for the short remains of some tubules connected to the stalk apex. Capillitium 3.5-9.0 µm diam., with warts, spines, cogs, half-rings and rings and with a number of ridges which may unite locally to form a reticulum. Spores 7-8(-9) µm diam.
