Overview
Main identification features
  • long barbels: snout, under eye, chin
  • white + 5-6 dark bars
  • pectoral base - black bar
Head robust; front of tongue bilobed; head with ~30 large (>eye diameter) barbels, including 1 median barbel at tip of snout; 2 large barbels under eye; 8 barbels along and behind lower jaw; lateral line pore over preoperculum; first gill slit completely open;VII dorsal spines, 8-9 dorsal rays; 7-8 anal rays; 18-20 pectoral rays; pelvics fused in disc; tail round; no scales.

Tan or white, with; 4-5 thick dark bars on body; narrow brown bar on nape; dark bar on pectoral base; dark bar obliquely from eye down across operculum; fins clear.

Size: 3.5 cm.

Habitat: rocky shores.

Depth: 0-20 m?.

The tip of Baja, Tres Marias Islands to central Mexico.
