Overall silvery, lips and chin white; axil of pectoral fin blackish.

Habitat: usually seen on flat sandy bottoms in clear water.

Baja California to the Gulf of California to Peru, and the Galapagos and Malpelo.

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Inhabits sandy areas to about 69 m depth but usually from 3-18 m. The young occur in very shallow water on reef flats and in sandy bays over mixed sand and rock bottoms (Ref. 5592 ). Probably feeds on benthic invertebrates (Ref. 9344 ). Only caught incidentally with trawls (Ref. 9344 ).
