FEMALE Length 10 mm.; metapleural protuberance less prominent, entirely dark. lacking the testaceous outer rim of americanus.

MALE—Length 7-9 mm.; testaceous rim of metapleural protuberance very narrow or absent; discs of sternum 7 much reduced, quadrangular in outline, the pubescence covering central area of each. In americanus male the discs of sternum 7 are broader, the apical margin of each somewhat incurved, the lateral margins more rounded, and the pubescence is longer and more dense along the inner and outer margins of each.

DISTRIBUTION—Florida to New Jersey, Illinois and Minnesota; July to November, with flight occurring as early as April and May in Florida.

FLOWER RECORDS—Aster, Erigeron quercifolius, Haplopappas, Melilotus alba. Pentstemon and Solidago. It has also been collected at honeydew of Phylloxera, on Quercus alba by Krombein.
