GINGLYMOSTOMA

NURSE SHARKS

Head broad and flattened; snout broad, rounded; mouth short, transverse, well forward; nostrils with large barbels; eyes small, oval; teeth small, multicusped; five small gill arches, last two close together and over pectoral fin; fins blunt and rounded; two dorsal fins, base of first one over base of pelvics; second dorsal ~1/2 size of first; tail asymmetrical, lower lobe hardly developed.

This tropical genus contains one species, which occurs in both the eastern Pacific and the eastern and western Atlantic.
