GRAPE-EYE SEABASSES
Body deep, compressed; head compressed, pointed; mouth large, oblique, lower jaw projecting; upper jaw bone broad, with distinct accessory bone; teeth small, simple, on jaws and top and sides of roof of mouth; preopercle serrated; long gill rakers; dorsal with X spines, anal with III spines; lateral line complete, follows contour of back; scales small, rough, on all of head and jaws.
The genus contains a single species, found in the southern subtropical eastern Pacific and extending into the fringe of our region.
