HIRUNDICHTHYS

FLYINGFISHES

Pectoral reaching past anal base; no branch of lateral line to origin of pectoral; pelvic origin nearer anal origin than pectoral base, fin long, reaching past anal origin; anal origin before 3rd dorsal ray; juveniles without barbels under chin.

This circumtropical genus contains 7 species; 3 species occur in our region, one circumtropical, one endemic and one central to eastern Pacific species.
