Generally dark brown to nearly blackish without distinctive marks. Size: attains a total length of at least 257 cm (disc width 117 cm). Inhabits sand-mud bottoms, common in estuaries. Depth: to at least 100 m. Southern Baja and the SW and central eastern Gulf of California to Ecuador, the Revillagigedos, Galapagos and Malpelo. Attributes Abundance: Common. Cites: Not listed. Climate Zone: Northern Subtropical (Cortez Province + Sinaloan Gap); Northern Tropical (Mexican Province to Nicaragua + Revillagigedos); Equatorial (Costa Rica to Ecuador + Galapagos, Clipperton, Cocos, Malpelo).
