Adults inhabit rocky pools and slow-flowing sections of streams. Also found congregating at the base of small waterfalls (Ref. 44894 ). Feed partly on small prawns and juvenile fishes (Ref. 5259 , 44894 ), but is basically an omnivore. Eggs are guarded and fanned by the male parent (Ref. 205 ). Aquarium conditions: pH=7.2, H=8, 25°C water temperature, live food, egg layer, peaceful community fish, requires rock and plant cover (Ref. 6398 ).

Estimates of some properties based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82805 ):  PD 50 = 0.5625   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high]. Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00955 (0.00348 - 0.02624), b=3.13 (2.89 - 3.37), in cm Total Length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245 ). Trophic Level (Ref. 69278 ):  3.9   ±0.66 se; Based on food items. Resilience (Ref. 69278 ):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
