MYLIOBATIS

BAT-EAGLE RAYS

Disc rhomboidal, wider than long; pectorals bluntly pointed, concave at rear; head broad, short, projecting well before disc; eyes and spiracles on side of head; tail slender, about as long as disc, no tail fin; 1-2 large spines at base, after small dorsal fin; teeth in flat, pavement-like plates, with 7 series of plates; pectoral fin continues onto rostrum.

A circumtropical genus, except for central Pacific, contains 11 species; with 3 endemic species in our region.
