Eyes on left side; body height 42-48% of standard length; head length 26-28% of standard length; snout profile convex at most a slight notch before top eye; snout larger than eye, distance from snout tip to top eye <24% of head length; eyes parallel; width between eyes <6% of head length; mouth 31-37% head length, ends under middle lower eye; fixed teeth in 2 rows on upper jaw, 1 row on lower jaw; 7-9 short, fat, serrated rakers on lower arm of 1st gill arch; lateral line not extending onto head, relatively straight; base of eye side pelvic on midline of body; urinary papilla on blind side, immediately behind anus; eye-side pectoral 67-78% of head length (to 115% in male, with 1st ray elongate); 82-92 dorsal rays, 3rd-5th rays long, ~30-50% of head length; 63-74 anal rays; 50-57 lateral line scales.

Eye side grey-brown, dorsal and anal with row of dark spots, pelvic a little darker, rear 1/2 of tail streaked; blind side yellow-white.

Size: 15 cm.

Habitat: sand and mud bottoms.

Depth: 10-40 m.

SE Gulf of California to Peru.
