The Australian Zoologist 5 (4): 353-357 [354] [based on Urolophus aurantiacus in McCulloch, A.R. 1916. Report on some fishes obtained by the F.I.S. Endeavour on the coasts of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South and South-Western Australia. Part 4. Biological Results Endeavour 4 (4): 169–199 figs 1–2 pls 49–58 [172 pl. 49]].

    Syntype(s) AM I.13805 (figured specimen in McCulloch), between Port Hacking and Wollongong, NSW; AM I.13806, between Port Hacking and Wollongong, NSW
    Comment: 11 syntypes known based on McCulloch description, but Whitley did not indicate a holotype in 1929.
