Mouth a little above center, lower jaw projecting; 5-6 grooves on cheek; teeth uneven, notched; 3 dorsal spines, last very small, under skin; cheeks scaly, with 3-6 scaleless oblique grooves; no patch of enlarged scales behind gill slit; dorsal III, 26-28; anal 23-25; pectoral 12-13; tail strongly concave.
Top olive brown, abruptly pale grey below, a pale blue stripe (with orange upper border) front the pectoral to the tail; grooves on cheek blue; scales on upper body with blue dots (at front) or blue lines (at rear); skin between scales on lower body dark; blue-edged orange stripe from lower eye to lower edge of pectoral base; tail blue-grey with upper and lower borders red.
Size: 35 cm.
Habitat: rocky reefs.
Depth: 15-200 m.
Indo-Pacific; possibly resident here at, Cocos and the Galapagos.
