Dorsal rays XI,I,17-18; anal rays III, 17; lateral-line scales 56-60; gill rakers on lower limb of first arch 17; body elongate, depth 3.2-3.5 in standard length; dorsal fin deeply notched, but two portions joined at base; pectoral fins long and somewhat curved, reaching to level of anal fin origin; base of spinous part of dorsal fin shorter than base of soft part; eye large, about 2.7 in head length; lower jaw projecting; margin of preopercle finely serrated.

Silvery bluish without distinguishing marks.

Size: to 22 cm.

Habitat: forms schools in rocky shallows.

Depth: 3-20 m.

Galapagos Islands.
