Ulmus alata Michx. -- Winged Elm

Idenification
"Leaves small for an elm (2 inches long, 1 inch wide.)
Fruit riping with or before the opening of the leaves, red in color
branchlets furnished with corky wings. Margins double toothed, thick,
and dark green, smooth above." Usualy a Winged Elm tree grows
up to 40 to 50 feet tall. These trees are usually found
in dry lands they are not likely to be found near water.Winged Elms
are found throughout the state but not in high mountains.
These trees have lots of uses:tool handles,wheel hubs.
