    notes
This view of Atlanta is from Soapstone Ridge or what is left of it. At one time Soapstone Ridge was a large outcrop of ultramafic metamorphic rock called "soapstone". It was an important archaeological area with hundreds of Archaic age (10,000 to 3,000 BP) stone bowls and bowl scars. Most of the ridge has been destroyed by housing developments, land fills, and road construction. caption

soaptone bowl soapstone ridge dekalb co ga 1 _Flickr title

We observed six Archaic age (10,000 to 3,000 BP) stone bowl fragments or preforms. Someone placed this unfinished bowl fragment on top of this rock. Stone bowls predate ceramic pottery. _Flickr description
