The carrion or starfish flower is native of South Africa. The flower smells of rotting flesh and is pollinated mostly by flies. My plant has a history. This is the first time it has bloomed. A friend in Florida gave me a cutting ten years ago. I grew a large handsome pot of it but it never bloomed. About two years ago the pot developed a nasty rot that killed the entire plant except for one small segment. I planted it and grew the current pot. One of the two blooms finally opened today during a rain.
