Because of very low discharge ( the lowest in 75 years of record at an upstream gaging station) ocean tides are greatly effecting this section of river which is over twenty miles from the coast. There is not enough fresh water moving down the river to keep tidal influence low. In this condition there is almost five feet of change between high and low tide. I watched a man catch a large blue crab with his fishing pole. We were told with normal river flow the tidal change was only a few inches.
