The Engrailed Ectropis crepuscularia

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 30-40 mm.

A very variable species, which closely resembles the Small Engrailed ( E. crepuscularia ). Some authorities consider them to be conspecific.

There are two generations, flying in March and April, and then in July and August, but in the northern parts of its range it is single-brooded, flying in April and May.

Frequenting woodland, gardens and other bushy habitats, the species is common in England and Wales, less so in Scotland and Ireland.
