Diplura Identified In Or Near Great Smoky Mountains National Park

CAMPODEIDAE (Will Reeves, Clemson University)
Campodea (Monocampa) morgani Silvestri. Known from North Carolina (and Kentucky, Florida, and Virginia).

Litocampa condei Ferguson, 1999. Known only from GSMNP (TN).

Litocampa n. sp. This is an undescribed species I collected in the Park. It has been
referenced in the past as a possible new genus. However, the specimens are very close to Litocampa.

JAPYGIDAE (Mark Muegge, Texas A&M University)
Metajapyx multidens (Cook)
Examination of holotype clearly shows 34 antennal segments. Thus, M. propinquus
Silvestri and M. turneri Ewing (paratype specimen) are synonyms.

Metajapyx confectus Silvestri
Silvestri's illustrations clearly shows and description states that macro-setae A, B, & C occur on tergite X.

Metajapyx n. sp. Smith's specimens labeled M. confectus are clearly misidentified.
Smith's specimens have only macroseta B present and are very similar to M. remingtoni Smith & Bolton. These specimens represent an undescribed species.

Metajapyx hastatus (Fox)
This species is removed from synonymy with M. multidens and considered a valid species.

M. steevesi Smith & Bolton
M. remingtoni Smith & Bolton
M. folsomi Silvestri

Japyx turneri Ewing (holotype) and M. unidenticulatus (Ewing) are placed in synonymy with M. hastatus.
