Balsam Mountain Preserve
Jackson County, North Carolina
35.396° -83.128°

Overview

Balsam Mountain Preserve is a private community in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. A conservation easement of 3,000 acres protects 75% of the Preserve's total 4,400 acres. The Balsam Mountain Trust manages the natural resources of the Preserve through inventories, monitoring, preservation, and education.

In May 2010, the Trust joined Discover Life to train local staff and volunteers, build customized identification guides to the site's vascular plants, and start monitoring the site's moths, wildflowers, and lichens through photography. The Balsam Mountain Preserve is one of the first sites in Discover Life's network of field sites to predict and manage the impacts of climate change, invasive species, and pollution on species and their interactions. Please join us.
